Doctrine means "a teaching", here is a picture that represents how doctrine is to be brought forth from Scripture. Notice that there is a foundation from which all Bible doctrine is formed, taught and received. True doctrine cannot be formed from a single Scripture but is drawn out from as many as can be found to represent a certain belief. This is the key to knowing whether one's teaching is "right on" or not

What is the cause when man begins to get off base with doctrine? One or two Scriptures are taken alone or out of context and a doctrine is built so that there is no foundation, much like if you were to turn this picture upside down, there is nothing to support it and it would eventually fall.
