EXCUSES FOR SIN
Sometimes through the deceitfulness of
sin, Christians might have an improper perspective of sin. Often
when this happens, we tend to make excuses for our own sin or the
sins of others, e.g., husband, wife, children or maybe a close friend
or maybe even someone we don't really know that well but thinking
that their actions should be defended, we jump on the band wagon and
begin to incorrectly assume that they are in the right.
In many cases, the defense of
ourselves or the defense of others is caused by an unbalanced view of
the situation or circumstance of the person or persons involved.
What does the Bible say about this? God is specific on the causes of
"excusing sin".
MANIFESTATIONS OF EXCUSING SIN
1. Mal 2:17; The calling of bad men
good.
2. Mal 3:13-15; Calling the proud
happy.
Israel responded in rebellion in
which they had been in the state of most of their entire history.
3. Isa 5:20; Describing sin as good.
4. Isa 5:23; Justification of the
wicked.
Do your own thing man! Whatever
you feel is right, do it! The abortion issue. New age. Think for
yourself, question authority.
5. Ps 73:3-15; Envy of the wicked.
This will result in falling into
more sin. Prosperity is not the primary reason for the creation of
us.
6. Ps 10:11-13; Supposing God cannot
see sin.
This is a security to the wicked.
They think that God will not remember their sin and that He really
doesn't care.
7. Zeph 1:12; Considering God to be
indifferent to sin.
8. Job 34:5-36; Ignoring reproof.
9. Matt 11:18-19; Misjudging people.
There is no evidence in the Bible
that Jesus was in excess in anything, let alone eating and/or
drinking.
10. Ezek 20:49; Questioning God's Word.
The Word of God was not always
written as we have it and people were questioning the prophet
Ezekiel. We have the "written" Word now; it is not to be
questioned.
EXCUSING SIN IS THE CAUSE OF:
1. Matt 6:23; Moral darkness.
To the Jews the evil eye denoted a
body full of sin.
2. Matt 16:3-6; Man made concepts.
Watch for the traditions of men,
man made doctrines.
3. Matt 23:16-23; Hypocrisy.
We don't want to be identified with
the blind guides, or fools as Jesus called them. Spiritual integrity
4. Luke 16:15; An evil heart.
Be careful of those who have an
evil heart.
5. II Pet 2:1-19; False teachings.
